I began building and playing folk instruments in my high school years in the late 1960's. In 1975 I was asked to work on a two-manual French Harpsichord for a Vancouver player. The challenge of this task opened up a new world for me. I worked on 'kit' instruments over the next few years but I could both hear and see the limitations of assembling the factory-produced kits. I decided at that point to adopt the building methods of historical makers and to model my instruments after their designs. In my instruments I utilized the perfection that was achieved through hundreds of years of development. The Harpsichords that I envisioned combined a perfect balance between the tonal intricacies of the sound, the esthetic proportions of its overall shape and the beauty of its decoration.
